Higher Mill Museum Trust was established in 1967 to preserve the heritage of Higher Mill following its closure as a commercial enterprise. Part of Helmshore Mills Textile Museum, Higher Mill is the only historic, water-powered wool cloth-finishing plant in a UK museum. Our mission is to protect and preserve the historic buildings and grounds which make up this scheduled monument as a working museum, enhanced with collections relevant to its history.
The Higher Mill building and collection form part of the Lancashire Textile Industry Collection. This Collection, together with Lancashire County Council’s holdings in neighbouring Whitaker’s Mill and Queen Street Mill Textile Museum in Burnley was accorded Designated status due to its national and international importance.
Helmshore Mills Textile Museum is open to the public on:
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to 28 October 2018 12-4pm
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Easter to the end of October 2019 12-4pm
Throughout this period the Trust will continue to work with Lancashire County Council to explore the options for the future operation of the Museum. We would like to thank everyone who has provided support to this endeavour so far. Please visit our News page for updates.
