Schools and education groups are invited to discover Higher Mill

Our educational groups are encouraged to explore the mill with a detailed guided tour managed by the Heritage Education Team.

Understand Lancashire’s role in the cotton industry.

Built in 1789, Higher Mill Museum is right in the heart of the cotton industry, nestled between towns key to textiles. Understand the mill's role in the locality, the growth of textiles, and how it operated.

Learn how machines transformed the world in the Industrial Revolution

Explore how Lancashire changed from cottage cotton weavers to a machine-driven industry, the importance of the devices – and even see some of them in action.

Our educational tour is suitable for children ages 8-11, and you can arrange a school or group visit through the museum office.
