Thanks to a University of Central Lancashire Community History and Heritage Funding grant, the Trust is recruiting volunteers to take part in a project to discover the stories behind Higher Mill.
The project will run until July 2018 and focus on the social history of the Mill. This will include in-depth research into original owners the Turner family, subsequent owners and mill workers.
When the mill was built in 1789, the village of Helmshore did not yet exist. Higher Mill and the Turner family were responsible for much of the early development of Helmshore, yet this significant story is not one that is well known.
This is an exciting opportunity to discover these hidden histories and celebrate the heritage of both the Mill and the local community.
